The Hunt

Covey's Shooting Preserve, located just 12 miles east of the great city of Dothan, AL, offers some of the best southern plantation style quail hunting in the area. We take great pride in providing you, your family and friends with an amazing day of Southern Bobwhite quail hunting that is sure to bring you back for seasons to come. We offer a variety of hunting options tailored to each group of hunters, including 1/2 day, full day, quail, pheasant and mixed bag hunts. From piney woods to row crop fields to broomsage fields, our beautifully managed quail habitat offers the perfect cover to hunt with clients, friends and family. A typical morning hunt begins at 7:45-8:00. We will gather at the barn for a safety meeting, then load the buggy for a ride to the hunting grounds. We offer a few rounds of clay targets from a wobble trap to warm up and knock the rust off. The morning hunt will run until 11:30.

Afternoon hunts will begin at 2:00. We will also gather at the barn for safety meeting, take a buggy ride to the hunting grounds and if needed, shoot a few more rounds of clay targets to get warmed up. Afternoon hunts will run until 5:00 or until we run out of daylight.

Rates

Covey's Shooting Preserve offers fully guided hunts from October 1 - March 31.

2024-25 Rates Bird Hunting Price List

Quail Hunting
Full Day Quail – Reasonable chance to harvest 20 Quail ($550/gun)
Half Day Quail – Reasonable chance to harvest 12 Quail ($350/gun)

(Minimum 4 gun hunt / Special pricing for hunts with less than 4 guns)

***All hunters must have a valid, appropriate Alabama Hunting License prior to starting hunt. Preserve license is covered by the preserve.

Options for chukar and pheasant hunts are also available.

A mixed bag hunt to include quail, chukar and pheasants can also be arranged.

Gun Rental - $30/per day

Box of Shells (12 & 20 G) - $20/box

Corporate Fixed Rate Hunting Packages

Covey's offers corporate and group fixed rate bird hunting packages. No hidden/extra charges at the end of a hunt. We have designed these hunts with the corporate and large group clients in mind.

What to bring:

Shotgun and shells if you’re not renting ours. (Prefer 20 gauge or smaller)
Vest to store shells and empties during your quail hunt. If you do not have a vest, we have 6 for guests to use during the hunt.
Good walking boots.
Comfortable clothing with orange on the shirt if possible that’s appropriate for the weather. Check Ashford, AL for the weather forecast.
An orange hat if your vest does not have any blaze orange on it.
